Presentation is everything when it comes to a gift basket. If you choose to buy a ready to gift basket, you won't have to worry about how pleasing it looks - most gift stores have professional gift wrappers who do a great job of making sure all items in the basket are displayed beautifully.
But if you choose to gift a personalized basket, you'll need to take care of presentation on your own. Don't worry. It's not as hard as it appears, and no, you don't have to be a Martha Stewart in the making to create a beautiful baby gift basket from scratch.
First make sure you have the right container for your gifts. A Moses basket is fine, but think beyond. The point is to be creative and have your gift elicit oooohs and aaaahs of praise. Of course, they should also make the Mom happy, and trust us, women love anything that's packaged beautifully.
Think pails, or laundry hampers for a cute and funny touch. If you can find an unusual shaped wicker basket, all the better. Or go one step further and splurge on a wrought iron basket. They look extremely "vintage" and offer a break from the usual traditional gift baskets.
Now you have the basket out of the way, focus on presentation of the baby gifts. The problem most people experience is in the arranging of the gifts in such a way that each gets equal importance. To get around this problem, use foam blocks of varying sizes, and use these to prop up certain gifts. Make sure the smaller ones are placed in the front, and the larger ones find a place at the back. For all those inconvenient spots where a gift just doesn't stand out the way it should, use the blocks to manipulate the heights.
Cellophane is a great choice for wrapping the basket. There are several varieties in the market, and you can choose between clear, colored, printed etc. Clear works best since the beautiful gifts arranged artistically through the cellophane will provide enough drama to liven up the presentation. Complete the bow tying procedure in one shot - don't try to arrange the cellophane, it should look perfectly casual. Cellophane is a very handy wrapping material that looks great when it's just tied into a knot without any fuss.
Finish with a bow, or a bauble attached to the knot. Your baby gift basket is ready to take pride of place at the baby shower favor table.
