If you have chosen to have children at your wedding it is a nice idea to create wedding favors especially for them. While most children will love a small box of sweets or candies, it is unlikely they would value a bottlestopper or scented candle.
Another point to consider with children at wedding receptions is keeping them happy or distracted with some quiet activity whilst the 'uninteresting' things are happening! Achieving this requires some creative pondering to come up with wedding favors for children that will keep everyone happy.
Choosing wedding favors for children doesn't need to break the budget and in a lot of instances, may be less expensive to assemble than those for your adult guests. Consider including some type of activity or game that will have them occupied perhaps whilst the speeches are going on. This would help mothers and fathers stop the children from being bored and to keep them quiet and you are not concerned about mis-behaving children or some uncalled for and unfortunate interruptions.
Naturally the easiest solution would be to provide wedding favors that are appropriate for all ages, but that would mostly confine you to favors like cookies or candies. At the same time many mothers and fathers may not be entirely pleased about their children filling up on sugar and offering that sort of favor doesn't help to solve the problem of occupying them.
So what sort of wedding favors could you offer to children?
Try party stores found online and in the high street to see what they could offer. You can usually buy goods cheaper if you buy in large quantities and you will discover a good choice of items suitable for children of all ages. With packaging use cellophane wrappings, character printed loot bags or great little containers such as gable end boxes that will hold a great variety of different sized items! If you have to assemble wedding favors for children of different ages ensure you put name labels on them so they go to the right child.
A different way to keep children occupied is to arrange a separate table for them at the reception (ask permission from their parents first), I would propose that those children over four years old sit on a separate table and it could be wise to make the oldest child 'supervisor' and who can keep the other children in line! Set the table up with a white paper cloth and supply them with pens, pencils and crayons so they can draw and scribble on it. You may also purpose printed cloths at party retailers just for that purpose. Afterwards cut it up so every little one can take their own piece home.
